Job Description:

Plans, coordinates, and directs quality assurance program designed to ensure quality production of products consistent with established standards by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate employees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

Formulates and maintains quality assurance objectives complementary to Company policies and goals.

Performs quality reviews of documentation and practices to ensure compliance with stated requirements, including but not limited to quality manuals, HACCP program, Master Cleaning Schedule, Pest Control Program, GMPs, Allergen Control program, Organic Control Program, SQF, and Company quality records.

Applies statistical process control (SPC) methods for analyzing data to evaluate the current process and process changes.

Reviews data obtained during quality assurance activities to ensure consistency with company policies and procedures.

Develops new approaches to solve problems identified during quality assurance activities.

Keeps management team abreast of significant issues or developments identified during quality assurance activities and actions being taken to improve the situation.

Prepares and presents technical and program information to the management team.

Directs technical and administrative workers engaged in quality assurance activities.

Maintains a current working knowledge of government and industry quality assurance codes and standards.

Plays an active role on quality management teams within the organization.

Designs and implements quality assurance training programs to key personnel in conjunction with managers.

Investigates and adjusts customer complaints regarding quality.

Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervises approximately 1 Lead, 1 Sanitation Coordinator and 4 non-supervisory employees in the Quality Assurance Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university in food science, food technology, chemistry or related field, and three to five years experience in a Quality Assurance Management role and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. HACCP and SQF experience is preferred.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should possess proficient typing abilities, and have knowledge of Spreadsheet Software (MS Excel) , Word Processing Software (MS Word) Database Software (MS Access) and Email Software).
